What are the requirements to become a Taxi Driver?

You are required to obtain a P Endorsed Licence - P Endorsement Course - Unit Standard 17579 and 24089. Further information on how to obtain this are on the NZTA website Factsheet 42.
Fit and Proper Person Check
Medical Certificate
Practical Driving test (if one has not been done for other than class 6 licence within the previous 5 years)
ID Card

Alongside these compulsory requirements in becoming a Taxi driver, if you would like to drive for Gold Band Taxis you will also be required to

Sit an Area Knowledge Certificate for Christchurch
Sit a Gold Band Permit examination including practical drive time under assessment
Total Mobility Course
LCP Training Course (Limited credits program) optional. This program is designed to give taxi drivers confidence in all elements of passenger service, especially those with special needs; occupational safety and health; traffic law and the management of stress, health and fatigue.
